Application and Relevance

This course applies to a wide range of settings where emergencies requiring evacuation may occur. It is relevant for people who will need to perform a leadership role in workplace evacuations, in particular the roles of Chief Warden or Deputy Chief Warden. It is recommended for any industry where skills in conducting emergency evacuations are a requirement for worker safety. This course provides the skills and knowledge to be able to supervise and coordinate emergency evacuations.

Duration

8 hours classroom and on-site training and assessment 
The total duration is dependent on the complexities of the specific building or site and on the prior experience of the learners.

Course Content

This course provides the skills and knowledge to be able to supervise and coordinate emergency evacuations. It includes:

  • Requirements of Australian Standard 3745
  • Preparation and planning for emergencies
  • Developing evacuation plans and procedures
  • Building alarms and communication systems
  • Fire safety procedures
  • Bomb threat procedures
  • Chief Fire Warden responsibilities
  • Investigating an emergency
  • Coordination of emergencies
  • Briefing emergency services
  • Human behaviour in emergencies
  • Management of Post-evacuation activities

Up to 8 hours classroom, practical training and assessment
Students should have a basic level of literacy and numeracy skills. 
It is recommended that participants contact Zokal prior to their course if they have any concerns about their ability to complete the training.

Course Logistics

Number of Participants: 10
Requirement: Provide UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER (USI number) and ID
Students must have industry experience.
Students must have reasonable level of physical fitness due to the task requirements of this course.
Students must complete and return the PRE-ENROLMENT QUESTIONNAIRE prior to attending for the course
Equipment: All training materials are supplied by Zokal Safety Training
Meals: Full Day Courses – Lunch will be provided and light refreshments will be provided at morning break (only on our premises). Half Day Courses – Light refreshments will be provided at morning break (only on our premises)
Dress: Participants are required to wear clean clothing appropriate for the workplace and covered shoes. All other equipment used will be supplied by Zokal Safety Training.

PARTICIPANTS MUST BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH, AND MUST BE ABLE TO FILL OUT ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION.

Assessment Methods

This is a competency-based programme with progressive assessment throughout the course, including demonstration of written and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge. Please let us know if there are any issues that your Zokal trainer should be aware of. These may include:

  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy
  • Physical limitations, such as hearing, vision or mobility concerns
  • Anything that may affect your experience in the training course

Award Issued
