Course content
This course covers the skills and knowledge required to undertake the safety observer role for working under a confined space permit. This role may also be called a hole watcher, a fire watcher or sentry.
Where the person is safety observer for confined space work, they should also be competent to control confined space work and entry. This course also provides the skills and knowledge to enter and work in confined spaces, local risk control, gas testing atmospheres and first attack firefighting which are all skills prescribed by Industry for those working in a safety observer role.

Course Logistics
Number of Participants: 12
Requirements: Provide UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER (USI number) and ID.
Students should have a basic level of literacy and numeracy skills.
Students must complete and return the PRE-ENROLMENT QUESTIONNAIRE prior to attending for the course.
Equipment: All training materials are supplied by Zokal Safety Training.
Meals: Full Day Courses-Lunch will be provided, and light refreshments will be provided at morning break (only on our premises). Half Day Courses-Light refreshments will be provided at morning break (only on our premises).
Dress: Students are required to wear CLEAN clothing appropriate for the workplace and CLEAN covered footwear. Students are required to wear a hard hat and gloves during practical components of this course. Please bring this with you on the day.
PARTICIPANTS MUST BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH AND MUST BE ABLE TO FILL OUT ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION.
Assessment Methods
This is a competency-based program with progressive assessment throughout the course, including written and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge. Please let us know if there are any issues that your Zokal trainer should be aware of.
These may include:
- Language, literacy and numeracy
- Physical limitations such as hearing, vision or mobility concerns
- Anything that may affect your experience in the training course.
Award Issued
Nationally recognised accreditation such as a wallet card and Statement of Attainment Certificate for the units of competency will be issued on satisfactory completion of all assessments. Zokal Safety Training Pty Ltd RTO Code 9126.
